Ligaw is a Filipino-made horror game that has been gaining popularity on TikTok for its attention to detail and realistic setting. The game follows a delivery rider who gets lost in the winding eskinitas of Caloocan City, and must confront strange visions and startling noises along the way.
One of the things that makes Ligaw so unique is its focus on the mental health of delivery riders. The game‘s creators, Raven Studios, wanted to tell a story about the challenges that delivery riders face on a daily basis, and how those challenges can take a toll on their mental health.
“Delivery riders were the backbone of Philippine society at a time when no one could go out,” said Raven Studios member Romel Nadong. “They worked tirelessly to deliver essential goods to people, but they often faced exhaustion and other hardships.”
Ligaw also features a number of distinctively Filipino elements, such as the use of Tagalog voice acting and the inclusion of familiar sights and sounds like barking dogs and scurrying rats. This helps to create a sense of immersion and authenticity for Filipino players.
While Ligaw is still under development, the game has already been downloaded over 6,000 times. The creators are hoping to one day release additional chapters, but they are currently focused on their full-time jobs as graphic artists.
Despite its incomplete state, Ligaw is already a groundbreaking game that is changing the way people think about Filipino horror. It is a game that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, and it is sure to leave a lasting impression on players.
