“Patria” stands for “one’s own native country, homeland” and “heaven”.
Patria “Iya” Regalario is a multidisciplinary visual artist centering on alternative practices of wood arts—pyrography, sculpture, illustration on wood, assemblage, and others—installation, pen and ink, and mural illustrations.
Her art pays tribute to the function of images as exposed identities, visual narratives, philosophical case studies, and agents for social change. It introduces her personal visual deconstruction of socio-political and cultural realities to purposely enforce questioning, contemplation, and to move the spectator.
“Public art and community are vital. It keeps art fluid, fiery, boundless, and grounded.”
Iya’s work is influenced by a coming to terms with the diversity of environments she is exposed to every day as a scholar, a farmer, an artist, and a Filipino.
