Pinyapel is paper made from discarded pineapple leaves, reinforced and print-ready for secondary packaging applications. The product is locally sourced, locally manufactured and 100% biodegradable. It addresses the growing need for specialty paper and packaging, whilst supporting local pineapple farming communities.
It is a result of the materials research and development initiative of the DTI–Design Center of the Philippines, and is a collaborative project between Design Center, Nature’s Fresh Pineapples (supplier of discarded pineapple leaves), CDO Handmade Paper (paper sheet processer), and Ideatechs Packaging (converter to food packaging applications).
