Gal Yosef, also known as Galy, is a self-taught Israeli artist who has gained a reputation as a prodigy in the 3D modeling field of art and animation. His passion for drawing and painting began at a young age and evolved into an interest in 3D design when he was only 12 years old. Yosef creates digital sculptures that are based on well-loved, reimagined designs of cartoon characters and are inspired by his love for animation movies. His art has evolved over the years and his latest pieces feature avant-garde versions of cartoon characters in a darker imagined world.
Yosef’s childhood was filled with Disney toys, superheroes, and Pokemons, which he often transformed by painting their suits and adding elements to make them more interesting and unique. He builds sets from plant and stone pieces and spends hours on each project, which he finds therapeutic and keeps him focused. Yosef believes that everything is artistic if you choose the right tool and was only interested in creativity and drawing during his school days.
Yosef’s art allows him to express his emotions and feelings by bringing innocent characters into contemporary life. He gives life to his ideas through rough sketches and works using a concept, utilizing unique tools to achieve a high level of detail. Yosef is comfortable with the furs step and likes dramatic lighting. He does not work on deadlines and only finishes a piece when he feels it is perfect.
His art has received recognition from various galleries and corporations around the world, including a title of ‘Artist of the Month’ from the American Autodesk Corporation. In 2021, he became the first 3D artist to be invited to the Eden Gallery in NYC. Yosef’s artwork sells for over $1 million a month and has been displayed in galleries around the world, including Dubai, London, Israel, and Las Vegas.
Apart from manifesting his emotions and feelings, Yosef aims to reveal to the world that innocence is disappearing and that money is consuming everyone. He is inspired by artists like Dali, Kaws, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, and Andy Warhol and values the connection that social media provides, allowing him to stay updated and connect with new people.
